Born 1808-1879.
Painter of history, genre, still life, flowers and fruit. He entered the Paris School of Fine Arts in 1824, studying under Baron Gros. Initially drawn to sculpture and engraving, he eventually turned to painting. He took part in the Paris Salon between 1833 and 1868, winning a third-class medal in 1836. Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 14853.
Although he painted historical and genre subjects, he seems more at ease in his still lifes, whose well-paced compositions do not linger on details.
